Breath is the first action – AND IT IS NOT YOUR ACTION.
The second action is thirst. That too is not your action.
After the child has taken his first breath the second phenomenon will arise in him – and now there is going to be a chain, and the whole chain has to be understood. Thirst will arise. Then hunger will arise. Then there will be a need for physical activity. Then sex will arise. Then there will be a need for mental activity. Then love will arise.
Then there will be a need for aesthetic activity: poetry, painting and music.
These are eight activities.
And then the ninth, the last, arises:
the need for spiritual activity – meditation, SAMADHI.
And this is the beauty of the whole phenomenon – that the ninth is again the first, because the ninth again pays attention to breath.
The circle is complete. First is breath, ninth is again breath; that’s why no spiritual science can neglect breathing.
